Paparazzi Guide to Major Live Tournaments

If you’re a member of the paparazzi when it comes to poker, don’t be ashamed. All it means is that you enjoy stalking famous poker players and snapping pictures of them every chance you get. I’ve seen you on broadcasts of the World Series of Poker. You’re the person with eight cameras hanging from your neck double-fisting disposable ones at the same time. Although you may have an unhealthy desire to snap photos of poker players, we at Poker Bonuses don’t want to leave you in the dark. Here is a quick list of some of the top poker tournaments in the world. Feel free to head over to Travelocity after you read this and start making plane reservations.

The World Series of Poker: May-July

This is the granddaddy of poker tournaments. Over 50 individual tournaments comprise the World Series of Poker. The last, its Main Event, is a $10,000 buy-in tournament. Starting in 2008, the Main Event was actually paused for 100 days once the final table was determined and then played out in November. The WSOP is a marketer’s dream. It’s aired on ESPN in primetime, re-run at all hours of the day, and is the tournament by which all other poker events are measured. It attracts thousands upon thousands of poker players, gives away millions of dollars, and generates a constant stream of spectators into the halls of the Rio in Las Vegas. It should be circled on the calendar of any paparazzi.

Ultimate Bet Aruba Poker Classic: September-October

This is perhaps one of the premier destinations for online poker players. It’s held at the Radisson Hotel and Casino. The old adage that you’ll hear veterans of this tournament like Phil Hellmuth say is if they bust out, it’s no big deal. They’ll head straight down the white sandy beach and into the ocean for a swim. It’s a laid-back atmosphere, so much so that the tournament actually once held its final table on a floating stage over the pool. Ultimate Bet officials promote the Aruba Poker Classic to no end on the online poker site, so in addition to playing paparazzi, you can also satellite your way in.

PokerStars Caribbean Adventure: January

Like the Aruba Poker Classic, the PCA was once a regular stop on the World Poker Tour. Internet gambling legislation in the United States changed all of that. Currently, the PCA is an officially-sanctioned European Poker Tour event and the only stop for the series in the Western Hemisphere. As such, it attracts the recognizable members of Team PokerStars Pro, so get your camera and plenty of extra film ready. This tournament is held at the Atlantis Hotel in Nassau, The Bahamas. Although the town is rather run-down, the hotel is gorgeous and features the world-famous bridge suite where Hollywood’s finest often can be found.

EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final: April-May

This is the equivalent of the WPT Championship for the EPT. The PokerStars-sponsored European Poker Tour’s Grand Final takes place at the storied Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco. Home of James Bond as well as being one of the grandest places I’ve ever been to, the Monte Carlo has an aura of nostalgia and is the setting for the richest EPT tournament held. Be forewarned if you go to Monaco, however. Even for rich paparazzi, the Principality can be a bit pricey. You may want to stay in nearby Nice, France, which is about a half-hour train ride from Monaco. Also, as a tip, when you leave the train station, remember to follow the signs to the waterfront or else you will be sent on a hike down the side of a mountain from the train station’s upper exit, which is nowhere near the casino.
