iPoker, the largest online poker network in the world and second only to PokerStars and Party Poker in terms of player activity, recently announced a major shakeup of its business.
Starting this month, iPoker is segregating its player base into two tiers – tentatively called iPoker1 and iPoker2. iPoker2 will become the top tier for the biggest brand names and those sites which generate the greatest amount of new business on the network. iPoker1 will be the home for the rest of its skins (which essentially don’t generate a lot of new traffic).
The purpose of this move is to stop so-called poaching of players from the larger sites – who spend a lot of money on advertising and promotions to get new players – to the smaller sites, which entice these players to switch over to their skins by offering moderately better VIP schemes which pay more bonuses and rewards, and are really only of benefit to big time grinders. In essence, these smaller sites will now be relegated to playing against only their own customers – a much smaller player base.
It will take some time for all the details to get sorted out, but as we understand currently there will be (at least) 5 sites in the iPoker2 top tier – Poker770, Titan Poker, Bet365, William Hill and Paddy Power Poker.
PokerBonuses.com customers will be pleased to note that we offer exclusive sign-up poker bonus offers for all 5 of the top tier sites.
Of note, all cash games and Sit and Go tournaments will be part of the two-tier network. HOWEVER, Speed Holdem (and all of its various names) and multi-table tournaments will not be affected, so players who continue to play on iPoker1 tier sites need to consider where the best opportunities will be to continue playing against the bigger player pools.
